Emergency Food Supply

What is an Emergency Food Supply?

We all need food to survive, most of the time we take it for granted that our food supply will always be readily available to us. You can just go to the supermarket and buy what you need at anytime. It doesn't occur to you that there might be a problem getting food when you need it. Maybe you haven't thought about stocking up ahead of time.

There are a lot of different things that can happen to you and your family at any given time which could cause a food shortage, such as a natural or man-made disaster or an economic crisis.

It is important to have enough emergency survival food on hand for you and your family in case of an emergency.

Even though it is possible to survive for a few days without food, will you have enough strength to handle difficult situations that come up if you are dizzy or fatiqued from a lack of food. Emergency foods are crucial to your survival.

Here are some guidelines if you choose to use regular store bought food for your emergency food supply:
  • Make sure to store foods that you regularly eat. Store food that does not need cooking, preparation, or refrigeration.

  • You should include vitamin and mineral supplements for complete nutrition.

  • You need to have enough food on hand for at least two weeks. It is always better to have extra food on hand than to run out.

  • Make special considerations for family members who have food allergies or special diets needs, including infants, toddlers, the elderly and family members with health issues.

  • Store a manual can opener, disposable plates and utensils.
